Enterprise Streaming is a Hit. While the use of streaming for entertainment is hitting the wall, it's hot within the enterprise and the B2B world.
Riva Richmond of Down Jones Newswires has a good article in the August 20, 2001 issue of the Wall Street Journal print edition.
According to Billy Pidgeon, an analyst at research firm Jupiter Media Metrix Inc., the top 1,000 U.S. companies ranked by revenue will spend about $2.8 billion on Webcasting in 2005, almost 10 times as much as the $290 million that he estimates they will spend this year. Surveys by Market Decisions Corp., Portland, Ore., show 26% of businesses with more than 500 employees were using streaming media in April, triple the number 18 months ago.
In addition to specific application examples including Merrill Lynch and Daimler-Chrysler, Richmond identifies the potential beneficiaries including Akamai, Broadcast.com and Digital Island.
