Web Hosting Strategies

Analysis and review of the web hosting and managed services industry by Doug Kaye.

Level 3 to Exit Web Hosting Business. Level 3 is walking away from its web-hosting business, and handing the keys, staff, leases, and customers to Computer Sciences Corp. "The Internet hosting business was expected to generate revenues of about $40 million, and a loss, excluding interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, of about $5 million for the full year 2003." Given that Level 3 is the one telco that attracted investment from Warren Buffet, what does that say about the health and profitability of the web-hosting business? It's certainly not encouraging.
