Arthroscopic Surgery. My wife, Cessna, had arthroscopic knee surgery this morning to correct a torn meniscus. She has a black belt in Aikido, but has been off the mat for a year while contemplating the surgery.
Fascinating (good) experience. Arrived at the outpatient surgery center at 6am. Minimal paperwork (by hospital standards). Polite, thorough, efficient staff. A private hotel-like pre-op room. Medical history, a warm blanket, IV, and one of those beautiful designer hospital gowns. Only five minutes late for scheduled 7:30am procedure. (Like airline travel, early in the day is always best.) 45 minutes later, the surgeon found me in the waiting room and walked me through a dozen photos taken through the Arthroscope: before, during and after the surgery. Very cool, and he was clearly proud of his work.
They have awsome new anesthesias, and Cessna was awake five minutes after the operation. Fifteen minutes later (8:15am) we were talking in the recovery room. By 9:30am we were home.
The patient is resting comfortably in a Vicodin haze watching TV.
